Mark Cuban said he'd be willing to give Baylor women's center and shot blocking machine, Brittney Griner, a shot in the NBA, according to ESPN.
Cuban said he'd consider drafting the 6-foot-8 star out of Baylor in the late second round, a spot in the draft where NBA hopefuls are typically taken with no risk due to low salary expectations and little to no guaranteed money. As is the case most of the time, these players will be cut from the roster or sent down to the D-League before the season starts.
"If she is the best on the board, I will take her," Cuban said before the Mavs' game against the Los Angeles Lakers. "I've thought about it. I've thought about it already. Would I do it? Right now, I'd lean toward yes, just to see if she can do it. You never know unless you give somebody a chance, and it's not like the likelihood of any late-50s draft pick has a good chance of making it."
Cuban also mentioned he would be willing to give Griner a tryout for the Maverick's summer league team if they don't draft her.
Griner is a three-time All-American and Big 12 player of the year and isn't your run of the mill women's basketball player. Her hands are 9 inches long and 9.5 inches across, which is longer than LeBron James. She also has a 7-foot 3.5-inch wingspan, which is better than Andrew Bynum, according to ESPN Sport Science.
She can also reach 9 feet into the air to block a shot, without jumping, and can cover 73 percent of the court inside the 3-point line, according to the research.
"I would hold my own! Lets do it." Griner responded to Cuban's comments via Twitter.
