Google Chrome Hangs and Crashes, Takes Only 26 Characters To Crash Browser

Google Chrome search engine is having a trouble because of a bug caused by a tiny URL. The glitch which is a certain character string of text, will make the browser crash.

The news site VentureBeat said that by simply adding "%%30%30" to the end of a specific URL, Chrome browser will hang and crash. In addition, even if the user will just hover the cursor to the said link, the same thing will happen.

The error was first noticed by a security researcher named Andris Atteka, when he tried to enter the added characters in the URL. Atteka stated that it takes 26 characters to crash the browser, but according to VentureBeat, only 16 characters is needed to make Google Chrome dysfunctional.

Atekka wrote in a blog post that the discovered glitch is not a serious threat calling it to be only a DOS vulnerability, and does not expect Google Chrome to reward him for finding it out.

"Unfortunately no reward was awarded as this was deemed to be only a denial-of-service vulnerability. Anyway, making secure software is much harder than finding issues in it. Thanks Google," Atekka wrote.

However, even if the said bug is not that serious, it can offer users discomfort and irritation since all the tabs and windows that are open will be lost.

The error will also affect all the latest versions of the Google Chrome and will penetrate to both Windows and OS X versions of the browser. When the bug infiltrates, it will make the Google Chrome screen translucent white and will have a notification saying "Google Chrome has stopped working" or "Aw, Snap".

On the other hand, Chrome on Mac PCs and Android smartphones will not be affected by the glitch. Google is about to release a patch thru an update in order to fix the error.
