DMX Arrested in South Carolina: Rapper Charged With DUI With No License

DMX was arrested late Thursday night.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed the rapper was charged with driving under the influence, according to USA Today. Early Friday morning, DMX's publicist, Domenick Nati, denied the charges.

"Allegations about DMX being arrested for drunk driving are false," Nati's statement read. "He was arrested early this morning but quickly released. X was given a breathalyzer test and easily passed it."

The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was charged with driving without his license, the rep said.

Nati told USA Today that the rapper was pulled over because he was not wearing his seat belt. Simmons was seen driving "erratically," Thursday night when he was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Sgt. Bob Beres of the South Carolina Highway Patrol's media relations department.

According to Beres, Simmons was charged with driving under the influence, not having a driver's license and not wearing a seat belt.

In February, the rapper was charged with driving with a suspended license after officers pulled him over in his 1978 Buick and arrested him.

"No, I didn't have a license... put the cuffs on me bury me here," he told a local Fox station after his arrest. "I paid the money. Basically, just five hours wasted for nothing."

The rapper has more than a dozen arrests under his belt. In 2011, he was arrested in Phoenix after he was carded driving at 102 miles per hour. Simmons did a brief stint in prison for violating his probation by refusing to take a drug test. He also served a 15-day jail sentence in 2000 for possession of marijuana.

The rapper's rep told MTV News that he's back in his South Carolina home and is continuing to focus on his upcoming album and acting roles.
