6 Reasons Why 'Moana' Will Be The Greatest Disney Princess Yet

Dreams do come true! Auli’i Cravalhois has always wanted to be a Disney princess and now she is finally one. She will be the voice of Moana, the newest Disney princess to grace the screen. Find out everything there is to know about the beautiful, 14-year-old Native Hawaiian.

Auli’i Cravalhois beat out thousands of girls who auditioned for the role of Princess Moana in Disney’s newest flick, Moana, but it turns out, the Oahu teen didn’t even think she was good enough to audition.

Check out the reasons why we feel Moana just may be one of the best Disney princesses yet...

1. She Brings Diversity: Moana follows a teenaged Polynesian princess undertaking a mythical quest. She uses her seafaring skills to search for a fabled island in her ancient South Pacific home of Oceania.

2. New Animated Heights: Frequent Disney collaborators Ron Clements and John Musker will direct the film. They previously helmed The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Princess And The Frog, but this will be their first venture into CG animation.

3. The Nature Element Is Real: Moana will be the second Disney heroine of a Pacific Islander descent, the first was in 2002’s Lilo & Stitch and the fifth princess of color in the company’s official line.

4. The Rock Is Her Sidekick: Dwayne Johnson "The Rock" is already on board to voice the demi God Maui in a tale that follows a spirited and fearless teenager who, with help from Maui, sets out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder.

5. Moana's Badass: Princess Moana is a powerful female character who drives the story and goes on a heroes journey. Along the way she meets a demigod named Maui, and the action-packed movie follows the duo as they face enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds, and ancient folklore.

6. She's a Mix of Some of Our Favorites: Moana's ideals and virtues remind us of other Disney princesses that we adore, such as Mulan, was a legendary woman warrior from the Southern and Northern Dynasties and also Pocahontas and more.

Disney has announced moving the release of its next princess feature, Moana, from 2018 to 2016. Moana comes out on November 23, 2016.
