Tree hugger may be a term being used to describe nature lovers or individuals that would dedicate pert of their loves in preserving and protecting nature. The term however can be taken literally as The Collective Evolution website reported that hugging or being around trees can have a significant benefit in improving one's health. One does not have to literally hug tree trunks, being surrounded by trees is already enough to create a positive outcome and can relieve stress.

The Mind Unleashed website then added that the tree hugging theory is already validated by science. One author Matthew Silverstone, who wrote the book "Blinded By Science" pointed out that trees has the capability to improve in alleviating mental health issues such as depression, concentration levels, stress, and anxious thoughts. He also cited that trees have the ability to reduce headaches in humans.

Silverstone pointed out several studies involving children and the psychological and physical effects of putting them around trees. The studies' results were stunning as it showed a significant physiological improvement in terms of the child's physical and psychological well being after interacting and being surrounded by trees. He also quoted a public health report which stated that ""access to nature can significantly contribute to our mental capital and well being".

As per the Nature and Health website, Japan encourages individuals to absorb the forest's energy and bask in the vibes of nature as it is believed to replace the body's negative energy converting it into a new, positive energy.

"In Japan, people practice 'forest bathing', where they spend quiet time absorbing the wisdom of ancient forests, taking long walks among the trees to stimulate their immune system. In Taoism, students are encouraged to meditate among trees, and it is believed that the trees will absorb negative energies, replacing them with healthy ones. Trees are seen as a source of emotional and physical healing, and themselves as mediators, absorbing universal energies."
