'Supergirl' Execs Talk About the Premiere Villian Twist

"Supergirl" has proven to be a real hit among comic book geeks - even though the CBS series only premiered its pilot episode on Monday night.

As a few teasers on villains came to light, "Supergirl" executive producers Andrew Kreisberg, Ali Adler, and Greg Berlanti dish on some details anyone would want to know about the upcoming villain twist.

WARNING: The next part will include some spoilers from the first episode of the "Supergirl" series premiere.

Many are gearing up to meet the villain in the "Supergirl" series, especially after the major plot twist that was revealed at the end of its pilot episode. The Hollywood Reporter writes:

"CBS' freshman comic book drama ended its high-flying series debut with a major twist: the villain heading to Earth and targeting Kara [Melissa Benoist] is none other than her aunt Astra (Laura Benanti). And not only is Astra family, she also looks exactly like Kara's mother, Alura (also played by Benanti)."

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg explains how they conceptualized the "Supergirl" villain:

"When we were writing the pilot, we thought about that a lot. [...] For us, we love when you have the hero and villain being linked, and what you can do to make what's happening between them personal. Nothing is more personal than family, but to then go one step further and have the villain be an exact replica of her mother is going to be really cool."

Not only that, but executive producers Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler also reveal the biggest struggle that lies before Kara - who finds inspiration of love and safety in the image of her mother.

"There is also the tie to her home, it just makes it tht much more emotional for Kara to deal with," says Greg Berlanti. "Every time she punches her aunt, she's really punching her mother. And how much of her mother might still be inside her aunt is something we're going to be looking at as the series progresses."
