Miley Cyrus Gets Real About Split With Liam Hemsworth; 'I Was So Scared of Ever Being Alone' (VIDEO)

Miley Cyrus gets real with Barbara Walters.

The 21-year-old singer addressed her breakup from "Hunger Games" star Liam Hemsworth during an interview for Walter's ABC special, "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013".

The "Wrecking Ball" singer attributed her breakup to being too young. Cyrus said she believed they moved too fast in getting engaged and felt she lost herself in the 23-year-old Australian actor.

"I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I had, this entire year," she told Walters. "I don't ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can't be yourself."

Cyrus and Hemsworth dated for four years, before becoming engaged in 2012. The couple confirmed their separation in mid-September. The former Disney star said she does not regret her decisions but believes she can now "actually be happy" on her own.

"I don't think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn't change being engaged," she said. "It was so fun wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I'm just at my house, by myself."

Several tracks on the pop singer's latest album, "Bangerz," speak of a broken relationship. In the song "Drive," Cyrus wrote the lyrics, "I was crazy, thinking you were mine. It was all just a lie," with Hemsworth in mind. But the singer denies that there was anything false about their relationship.

"I don't think there was any, any lies," she said.

When asked whether she was willing to ever get married, Cyrus replied, "I think I'll want that in the times that it needs to be."

Other honorees on this year's Most Fascinating People special include Jennifer Lawrence and the cast of Duck Dynasty. "Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013″ airs Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. on ABC network.
