The latest twist in the "Duck Dynasty" controversy involves poultry, but this time it's chicken, not ducks.
According to The Huffington Post, devoted fans of the A&E series are planning to show their support for the show by holding a Phil Robertson appreciation day at their local Chick-fil-A franchises nationwide on Jan. 21.
Organized through Facebook, the unnamed group has created "Chick-Phil-A" day. According to the Facebook page, those who support the outspoken reality star are encouraged to wear "Duck Commander or camouflage gear" and eat at their local Chick-fil-A chain.
The National Chick-Phil-A Day Facebook page invites supporters to "Stand For Free Speech. Sit For Good Food." The Huffington Post stated that the group has not connection to the fast food chain or Robertson, and is an "independent and organized from a grassroots view."
"Chick-fil-A says Chick-Phil-A was created by an 'independent group' ... though at this point, no group has come forward to take credit," gossip website TMZ wrote on Wednesday.
As of Friday, the site has nearly 25,000 likes and nearly 64,000 listed attendees since its creation on Dec. 20.
Robertson was suspended from the A&E series after he made comments on homosexuality, during an interview with GQ magazine, earlier this month. Robertson stated on Sunday that he refuses to apologize for calling homosexual behavior "sinful" and placing their actions in the same category as bestiality and promiscuity.
This is not the first time that Chick-fil-A has become a safe haven for anti-gay groups to express their opinion and disapproval of the LGBT community.
In 2012, Chick-fil-A was involved in a national debate on same-sex marriage after the chain's CEO, Dan Cathy, said during an interview that he was a believer in "traditional marriage." But in response to his comments, gay rights activists held a "Same Sex Kiss Day," a nationwide "kiss-in" for gay and lesbian couples at their local Chick-fil-A's nationwide.
