'Girl Meets World' Gets A Full Season Pickup From Disney

"Girl Meets World" has been given an early sign of approval from Disney.

According to The Wrap, Disney has ordered eight additional episodes of the upcoming "Boy Meets World" spinoff series, bringing the total number of episodes to 21, which is considered a full-season. 

"Got the great news tonight that #GirlMeetsWorld was picked up for 8 more episodes--a total of 21! Can't wait for everyone to see them all," Danielle Fishel, who plays Topanga Matthew. tweeted Friday.

The new series will follow the former characters, Cory and Topanga, played by actors Fishel and Ben Savage, as they raise their young daughter. The daughter, named Riley, is played by actress Rowan Blanchard. Cory is a history teacher at his daughter's school and Topanga owns an after school joint. The Wrap reported that actress Sabrina Carpenter will play Riley's quick-witted friend, Maya.

"We've been picked up for 8 more episodes. It's a joy revisiting these characters and meeting the world as a dad," Savage tweeted Thursday.

Creator Michael Jacobs said in a statement that remaking the show was an opportunity to reach his target audience, kids.

"Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made 'Boy Meets World' so popular," Jacobs said.

"Boy Meets World" ran for seven seasons on ABC and also starred William Daniels, Rider Strong and Will Friedle.

"'Boy Meets World' and its story of adolescent self-discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens," Adam Bonnett, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide, said in a statement during the announcement of the spin of series, according to Acess Hollywood.

Bonnett added. "In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter Riley Matthews in 'Girl Meets World' and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans."
