"Drug-Smuggling Mouse" Busted in a Brazilian Prison

RAGUAINA, Brazil, Nov. 6 - It's no longer surprising that jail detainees consistently get stoned. But, exactly how would they get their hands on these drugs? Jail officers say visitors are the primary ways to get these drugs inside. In the past, smugglers stashed them in their underwear or sanitary napkins. A drone was utilized in attempting to sneak a bundle in Bedford prison. In one scenario, powder was mixed with paint on a child's photo before being carried in.

As reported in UPI, it's not usual that prison guards have to bust an operation that involves a drug-smuggling mouse.

That's what happened in Barra da Grota Prison, in the city of Araguaina, northern Brazil, where the prison guards captured a mouse working as a drug dealer scurrying between cells with bags of illegal drugs tied to a cord on its tail.

The investigation team recovered small packets of marijuana and 23 packets of cocaine from the drug-trafficking mouse on Friday.

One guard at the prison, in the state of Tocantins, said: "We thought we'd seen everything but this is definitely new.

"The inmates tied a length of cord to the mouse's tail and used it to take drugs and other materials from one wing to another. When the animal reached its destination the prisoner took hold of it and took out the cord with the objects on it, Gean Carlos Gomes explained, Prison director of Barra da Grota.

"The mouse was discovered when guards spotted it walking around with the cord attached to its tail. They followed it and after they captured it were surprised to see it had been domesticated to such a degree it liked being stroked," he added.

CCTV is being examined so they can figure out which detainee was behind the plan. Concerning the mouse, it has evidently now been discharged into the wild with a epic story to tell its grandchildren.
