Research Shows Exercising During Work Hours Makes Employees Happy, Inspired and Energized

Happy employees create happy a working environment that could result to a happy work life.  But how can you achieve this when there are so many stressors present at work?  According to Standard Media, a research showed that employees need to take a break in between working to exercise. Doing this will make them more productive, happier and suffer less stress than those who do not exercise at all.

The University of Bristol carried out the results of the study and this was published in the International Journal of Workplace Health Management. The study showed that people who enjoyed a regular work out before going to work or during lunch breaks seemed more equipped to handle the days' work and can even do more.

In a local office in Kenya, it is a common sight to see employees stretching during work hours, but a local company there adapted the idea and it worked wonders in their office. Part of their daily work routine has physical stretches for every employee twice a day. OLX Kenya said that it helps give their employees a boost of energy.  OLX Kenya Country Manager Peter Ndiang'ui said that what seems to be like a small change in the company culture, like team lunch breaks or short time offs, has a big impact on the workplace creativity.

He explained that they encourage the team to have fun and make the office a comfortable place. They even appointed a Chief Fun Officer, who also happens to be their PR and communications manager, to ensure that the employees are motivated, inspired and energized.

This research is not the only one to prove that exercising during work hours has mental and physical benefits. Another study done by the University of Birmingham reported by Huffington Post also showed that employees who took exercise breaks at work experienced a boost in their moods and an increase in their ability to manage stress at work.
