Mia Wasikowska [Net Worth] as she returns in Alice through the Looking Glass: Official Trailer Out Now! [WATCH]

The long wait is over as Disney released the first official trailer for Alice Through the Looking Glass, showing new eccentric characters, surreal sets, colorful costumes, unfortunate adventures and lots of time travel and narrations drowned in beautifully written Carroll-esque wordplay.

Watch the trailer:

Based on Lewis Carroll's 1871 sequel to his classic children's tale, Alice in Wonderland - the new film reveals Alice, still played by Mia Wasikowska, getting zapped into a huge mirror to where her friend, a depressed Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) is. "Friends cannot be neglected," a menacing voice whispers as Alice go through the whimsical journey to save the needy Hatter. "Hurry."

The entire original cast returns in Through the Looking Glass, including Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, and Depp as the Mad Hatter, Alan Rickman as the Blue Caterpillar, Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat and Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit.

As the title suggests, a new character named Time will have his debut - a half-clock, half-human character to be played by Sacha Baron Cohen and will add to the list of Disney villains.

"Young lady, your time is up," Time tells Alice with his intimidating voice.

Directed by The Muppets and Flight of the Choncords, James Bobin, the film still sticks to its dark-surreal visual tradition, trademarked by Tim Burton who remains as the producer for the sequel of Alice in Wonderland.

"Because the first movie was so commercially successful, obviously there was this idea that we should make a sequel," says producer Suzanne Todd. "But we took a really long time trying to figure out what the interesting themes were for us, which was this idea that we all inadvertently waste time. Once it's gone, it's gone forever."

To date, Mia Wasikowska is worth $275 million dollars, making her one of the highest paid actress in the industry.

Alice Through the Looking Glass opens in theaters May 27, 2016.
