J.J. Abrams Admits 'Star Wars Episode VIII' Script Is Already Written, Confirms Rian Johnson Has Already Seen 'The Force Awakens'

There is no question that the world is excited over the upcoming release on 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens.' However, director J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the movie he is looking forward to is 'Star Wars Episode VIII,' which already has a written script!

"The script for 'VIII' is written," Abrams admitted to WIRED. "I'm sure rewrites are going to be endless, like they always are. But what [longtime 'Star Wars' screenwriter] Larry [Kasdan] and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going."

The director of  'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' also confirmed that he made sure Rian Johnson was a part of the filming process of 'Episode VII.'

"We had meetings with Rian and Ram Bergman, the producer of 'VIII.' They were watching dailies when we were shooting our movie," Abrams said. "We wanted them to be part of the process, to make the transition to their film as seamless as possible."

J.J. Abrams also revealed that Rian Johnson has already seen 'The Force Awakens,' but only for a more creative reason.

"I showed Rian an early cut of the movie, because I knew he was doing his rewrite and prepping. And as executive producer of 'VIII,' I need that movie to be really good," he admitted. "Withholding serves no one and certainly not the fans. So we've been as transparent as possible."

In addition to getting the first glimpse at 'The Force Awakens,' Rian Johnson also managed to impress J.J. Abrams with what he plans to do with 'Episode VIII.'

"He is an incredibly accomplished filmmaker and an incredibly strong writer. So the story he told took what we were doing and went in the direction that he felt was best but that is very much in line with what we were thinking as well," Abrams said.

'Star Wars Episode VIII' will mark the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren.
