Waiter Accidentally Tosses Out Receipt with Huge Tip From ‘Tips for Jesus’

A Los Angeles waiter is hoping for a miracle after throwing away a receipt with a massive tip left in the name of Jesus, FOX News reported.

Ron Kinney, a 67-year-old waiter at the French Quarter Restaurant in West Hollywood, Calif., received the generous gratuity, either $4,000 or $7,000, last December on a bill that was less than $50.

However, the restaurant worker said he assumed that the large amount was a mistake. Since he did not recognize the signature on the credit card receipt, he discarded it.

Kinney added that he was unaware of the "Tips for Jesus" diner, who has been traveling around the country leaving large tips for some unsuspecting restaurant workers. By the time he and a few of his co-workers realized where the tip came from, the receipt was long gone.

"I was pretty naive, I guess," Kinney told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I thought it was someone who had a drink too many and didn't realize what they were doing...We see this all the time. People make mistakes."

Kinney contacted the San Francisco Chronicle, in the hopes of a second coming. However there has been no response.

"The money would sure have come in handy for me to help for retirement," Kinney said. "We have no such plan at work."

Several reports have linked former PayPal Vice-President Jack Selby as the mystery tipper who was said to be "doing the Lord's work, one tip at a time." "Tips for Jesus" uses social media to document generous tips left to everyday wait staff and bartenders.

According to the New York Post, in December New York City waiter at Bo's Kitchen identified Selby.

"As I was about to drop the check off, one of the men said they would 'make my night.' They called me over, gave me the check," Aruj Dhawan, who received a $1,000 tip on a $111 bill said. "I was amazed. ... I was just really thankful."

Many of the tips are documented on the Twitter account @Tipsforjesus.
