Dunkin' Donuts Unveils New Eggs Benedict Sandwich to Fast -Food Breakfast Market

The fast-food breakfast market is starting to get a bit crowded.

The Business Insider reported that Dunkin' Donuts has released its new Eggs Benedict sandwich on Tuesday. The grab-and-go version of the classic breakfast meal consists of Black Forest ham, egg and a Hollandaise sauce substitute on a toasted English muffin.

Executive Chef and Vice President of Global Product Innovation at Dunkin' Brands, Stan Frankenthaler, said he was inspired to make the sandwich more portable for customers, who are consistently in a rush.

"I wanted to take this popular breakfast entree that people order in sit-down restaurants and turn it into something people could get quickly and take with them," Frankenthaler told the Business Insider.

The new Dunkin' Donuts' item will not have actual Hollandaise sauce, which consists of egg yolk and liquid butter. Frankenthaler said the company will be using a cream cheese-ish sort of spread to replace the traditional Hollandaise sauce.

"The biggest innovation challenge was creating the Hollandaise spread," Frankenthaler told the Business Insider. "The key was to create something that wasn't messy and could be applied to the English Muffin very quickly."

Frankenthaler added: "Our employees are used to putting cream cheese on bagels very quickly, so this is no different."

According to Dunkin' Donuts' website, the new sandwich has 300 calories. It makes up for 30 percent of the recommended daily cholesterol intake and 33 percent of the daily sodium intake.

Last week Taco Bell announced that it will soon be serving breakfast with items like a waffle taco and a breakfast wrap. McDonald's also announced that its company is considering extending it breakfast hours beyond 10 a.m.

The Eggs Benedict sandwich will be available all day.
