Google and Star Wars Team Up For App Makeover

Star Wars fever has made its way into your email inbox, - literally. As part of the Force Awakens all-encompassing marketing push, Google has just announced new Star Wars themed visual enhancements to their family of apps and services across desktop and mobile platforms.

To see the custom themes, fans must first visit google.com/starwars, sign in with their Google account, and finally choose whether they side with the light or dark side of the force. Once the short process is done, each of Google's services will be given a Star Wars makeover depending on which side of the force you picked.

These change range from small, visual tweaks such as Youtube's loading bar turning into a lightsaber or Google Maps' icon becoming a Tie-Fighter or X-Wing; to huge overhauls like Gmail's brand new Star Wars skin or Waze's C-3P0 narrator option.

If you're curious about how the other side of the force looks like, you're free to switch between the two at any time. The Google Star Wars page also has a cool animated meter of two lightsabers clashing to see which side currently has the most support.

The FAQ states that it may take some time for all the changes to come into effect, so be patient while waiting for the Star Wars features to show up.

In the official announcement, Google says that this is just the beginning, and that we can expect more Star Wars themed content as the film's December 18 release approaches.

"We've got more coming between now and the opening night, the Millennium Falcon in all its (virtual reality) glory included, so stay tuned. And we've hidden a few easter eggs, too. So awaken the Force within, and be on the lookout for things from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." Reads the letter.
