National Dog Show: Charlie the Skye Terrier Fetchingly Takes Best in Show at Purina's Thanksgiving Classic [PHOTO + VIDEO]

Dog shows consist of a lot of work and preparation, contrary to what most people believe. At this year's National Dog Show Presented by Purina, an unlikely winner bagged the trophy for Best In Show.

The show, which aired on NBC on Thursday, crowned four and a half year old Charlie the Skye Terrier with the highest award, beating 1,700 other canines and over 170 breeds.

Charlie the Skye Terrier (check out his photo here) had stiff competition too. Entertainment Weekly reports:

"Walking with handler Larry Cornelius, Charlie - whose formal name is GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie - was up against top dogs including an Ascob Cocker Spaniel, a Newfoundland, a bearded collie, a smooth coat Chihuahua, a Scottish deerhound, and a French bulldog owned by Patty Hearst. This is the 79th Best in Show title in Charlie's career."

National Dog Show host David Frei told People through email:

"A great winner! Not only a great Skye terrier and a great show dog, but Charlie is fun for everyone. He makes us all smile as we look at those big ears, his beautiful coat, his long and low shape, and his happy personality."

Meanwhile, co-host John O'Hurley said: "The moment he entered the ring, I turned to David and said, 'Wow...!' 'Heads and tails' above the competition."

Purina also congratulated the adorable pup through their Twitter account. The tweet, also accompanied by a video, reads:

"Ladies & gentlemen, drum roll please. The #BestInShow is @ProPlan-fed Skye Terrier, #Charlie! #NationalDogShow"

It seems as though Charlie really worked hard to get that title. Not only that, but he deserved it! In addition to his 79 Best in Show titles, Charlie also has more than 200 first place titles within the terrier category.
