68-Year Old Retiree, Represents Himself And Won A Case Against Apple

Retired property developer, Deric White, scored a monumental victory against tech giant Apple when he represented himself in court and won.

As reported by Standard UK, the 68-year old retiree from London has battled with the tech giant in court for almost a year now after Apple's flagship store at Regent Street wiped off all the files in his phone without asking permission. He dropped his phone for servicing only to come back 20 minutes later to find his phone cleaned of all his files.

When he got home, it was just then that he realised all the photos and videos taken during their honeymoon in Seychelles last autumn had been erased; He married in summer of 2014. When his wife learned of this, she was greatly devastated and cried.

His favourite video of a tortoise biting his hand was also lost, including his pictures during an earlier African safari trip. All his contact numbers and memoirs when he was battling cancer for 10 months were also wiped out.

White, who has just beaten cancer of the oesophagus months prior, is resolved to conquer another battle with Apple.

"Having fought cancer, I was not going to get defeated by Apple," he said. After learning that his friends or their mates have experienced similar cases, he became more resolve to fight the tech giant.

"Other people should be inspired - you can't keep getting trod on by corporations coming at you with Ts and Cs."

The Central London County Court has ruled in White's favour last Monday, granting him $3,000. Although he initially asked for $7,000 so that he and his wife could take a second honeymoon, he was just as happy to win the case. He and his wife plan to spend the money on a trip to Cornwall in the United Kingdom.

"It's not so much the money that I have won, but it's the moral victory.

What happened to White is a gentle reminder to back up your files always. Big companies such as Apple have small chances of committing error.
