'Doctor Who' Christmas Special Trailer And Synopsis: What Will Happen In 'The Husbands Of River Song?' [VIDEO]

The Doctor gets reunited with Mrs. Who in 'The Husbands of River Song!'

It seems like 'Doctor Who' is making up for the death of Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) by unleashing a truly special Christmas episode this year. The 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special will mark the return of Alex Kingston as the Doctor's beloved wife River Song, and if the trailers are any basis for what could happen, it looks like a whole lot of fun.

The synopsis for 'The Husbands of River Song' reads as follows:

"It's Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from Christmas Carols and Comedy Antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon the Doctor for help, he finds himself recruited into River Song's squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy. King Hydroflax (Greg Davies) is furious, and his giant Robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole (Matt Lucas) survive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is?"

So wait, River Song doesn't recognize her own husband? That shouldn't be a far stretch, since the Doctor looked a lot like Matt Smith when they got married, but just the idea of Mrs. Who trying to figure out who Twelve is sounds like loads of fun.

'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat has previously confirmed that 'The Husbands of River Song' will take place at a time when River doesn't know about The Doctor.

"It's immediately after 'The Angels Take Manhattan' so she's just seen Matt Smith's Doctor lose Amy and Rory, and obviously before 'The Name of the Doctor' because she's dead in that," he told Radio Times.

Steven Moffat also confirmed that the 'Doctor Who' Christmas Special will be an enjoyable treat.

"Here at last we see them as Mr. and Mrs. Who at the height of their powers," he said. "It's great fun."

'The Husbands of River Song' will air on December 25.
