New Cure For Hepatitis C Found

A new study has led to the discovery of a new cure for Hepatitis C.

Researchers at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray has just unveiled a new medicine for Hepatitis C. As what has been reported by Times of India, the new cure will provide new hope for patients who were diagnosed with the said liver disease which is a result of a chronic viral infection.

The study was done by conducting an experiment to those individuals who are suffering from Hepatitis C. A total of 260 Hepatitis C patients were examined from 50 different areas in the United States and Puerto Rico.

The participants undergone clinical trials in which each of them were medicated with a certain pill which contain two different types of drugs namely sofosbuvir and velpatasvir. The patients were then tasked to take two pills a day of the specific medicine, for three months straight.

The result showed that for those patients who have advanced stages of the Hepatitis C, 90% of them were totally cured which include patients who were in the verge of having a transplant because of the severity of the disease.

On the other hand, of those who were diagnosed with earlier stage of hepatitis, 99% were cured without the possibility of the disease to reoccur.

In a statement Dr. Charlton stated that the latest discovery will offer a wide application for the treatment of Hepatitis C.

"Although longer follow-up is needed, the ability to achieve a high cure rate of hepatitis C in patients with advanced liver disease - and the observation of early stabilization and improvement of liver function - raises the possibility of decreasing the number of patients with hepatitis C who need liver transplantation," stated by the principal investigator of the ASTRAL-4 trial.

According to statistics, there were about 2.7 million people in the United States who have a chronic hepatitis C virus infection.
