Introducing Joffee, the Coffee and Juice Hybrid

Move over, CronutsTM.

It appears the weird yet innovative world of food hybrids is still very much active with the welcoming of its newest member - the Joffee. That's the (somewhat strange) combination of juice and coffee.

Joffee is an interesting mixture of bottled Fair Trade coffee, blended with juiced whole blueberries and cane sugar. It was originally created by Coffee Juice, a Texas-based company. The juice also comes in three flavors - coconut, sweet vanilla, and salted caramel. Doesn't sound so absurd now, does it?

It may still sound bizarre to coffee traditionalists, but the creators say this drink is supposed to be enjoyed by coffee and non-coffee drinkers alike. "We're the guys who developed and advanced the Toddy® commercial brewing process and helped spark the cold brewed coffee revolution," Brett Holmes and Strother Simpson, creators of the Joffee, said on their Coffee Juice website.

Touting their new product as "All natural, non-carbonated, non-dairy, non-GMO", the Joffee contains five grams less sugar than an 8 oz. serving of orange juice, and has 25% less sugar than Red Bull. The creators believe the drink also has some health benefits, since the ingredients they use are high in antioxidants. "Chicory contains inulin, a powerful probiotic. There have been numerous studies citing the benefits of drinking coffee. Brewed cold coffee also eliminates a majority of acids and oils that are found in coffee brewed with hot water," the creators say.

While the Joffee is a peculiar drink to chug, this is certainly not the first innovation for the caffeinated potion. A shop in Canada has applied for license to spike their coffee with cannabis (though it is yet to be approved), while there's also coffee infused with resveratrol, the same anti-oxidant found in red wine. Nestle is also reportedly working on a coffee concoction that provides an all-day buzz, much to the delight of coffee drinkers everywhere.
