Yahoo Food Recipes Gone: Yahoo Shuts Down Food Landing Page

If reports from Variety are to be believed, Yahoo will be closing down Yahoo Food as one of its cost-cutting strategies.

Martha Nelson, Yahoo's global editor-in-chief and one of Time's top editorial exec, has written about the phase out in a blog post.

"We know you come to Yahoo because of our distinct voice and unique blend of original content, aggregation and personalization," she said. "With a renewed focus on News, Sports, Finance and Lifestyle, we will be working to make Yahoo an even more essential part of your life."

Eater.com and other content partners were first informed of the shut down by Yahoo Food Editor in Chief Kerry Diamond. New York-based Diamond is a restaurateur and a co-founder of Cherry Bombe magazine.

Yahoo Food was part of the seven digital magazines along with Yahoo Health, Yahoo Parenting, Yahoo Makers, Yahoo Travel, Yahoo Autos and Yahoo Real Estate the company launched in 2014 to expand the site's audience reach to turn around Yahoo's decline in recent years. Yahoo Food was created especially to showcase food-related original and syndicated content.   The future of seven other Yahoo landing pages - Yahoo TV, Yahoo Movies, Yahoo Music, Yahoo Beauty, Yahoo Style, Yahoo Celebrity and Yahoo Tech - is undetermined for now.

According to Capital New York, Yahoo Tech Editor Dan Tynan was laid off as well after being in the company since December 2013. His staff members in Yahoo Tech will be moved to Yahoo News.

Yahoo infamously shut down its on-demand streaming platform Yahoo Screen earlier this year, leading to the cancellation of numerous original series like "Sin City Saints" and the sixth season of "Community," after it had a $ 42 million write-down in 2015.  The company also revealed plans to lay off approximately 15 percent of its workforce and would concentrate on the four areas Nelson mentioned.
