Food Safety News: Metal Contamination Leads To Recall of Chicken Breast Nuggets

The US Department of  Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a public health alert to notify  the public recall of chicken breast nuggets by Maxi Canada Inc, a Quebec-based establishment.

According to reports, the recall included approximately 103,752 pounds of chicken product, which has been contaminated with metal pieces. FSIS was notified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) of the recall, which also affected the export of meat products to the US, according to reports from Journal-Democrat.

The chicken, which was produced in July 2015, was imported to the US between July 30, 2015 and March 5, 2016.

The products bear the establishment number "Canada Est. 348" and UPC number 064563225782 and was shipped to retailed locations in the US nationwide, and even to retailers like  Safeway, Kroger, and Wal - Mart.

The problem was discovered, when a consumer of US reportedly complained to Maxi Canada Inc, of a foreign object in the product. The company initiated a recall starting from March 5, 2016 and consequently, the CFIA notified FSIS.

Fortunately, there has been no reports of adverse actions due to  consumption of the affected products.
