Applebee’s Serves Alcoholic Root Beer to Kids Accidentally

Alcoholic root beers might be all in rage, but not so for the kids who visit any coffee store. However, some unfortunate children in Tennessee recently discovered about the flavor of the alcoholic root beer, and the effect of getting drunk.

According to reports from Wavy, an employee of Applebee's Johnson City outlet  accidentally served three kids an alcoholic root beer called "Not Your Father's Root Beer".

Scottie Barnett, father of the two kids aged 9 and 11, mentioned that the kids drank before they noticed what has been actually served.

"We walked in, we got seated, we asked for something to drink," Barnett said. "My kids said they wanted root beer, so she said 'Ok, fine.' She brought them what appeared to me as root beer."

He immediately brought the same to server's attention, but the server "insisted the drinks were not root beer", at which point Barnett called the police and Applebee's corporate office to report the incident.

According to Barnett, his 9 year old daughter was also served with the same drink, but she did not drink any of the beverage.

The nine - year - old kid was later hospitalized for stomach pain, but was soon released, according to reports from Eater.

"This is a 5.9 percent alcoholic drink," he said. "They don't even serve root beer here at this establishment."

A spokesperson for Applebee's told, "Sincere apologies were made, the family accepted dinner as our guests and immediate re-training of all team members on duty took place."

"Re-training of all team members of all the restaurants operated by this owner will be completed tomorrow."

He also went on to mention that this was "an isolated mistake in one restaurant owned by an independent franchise operator. Strict requirement are in place to prevent this type of error and this mistake should not have happened."

Notably the offending employee has been suspended and is presently pending an enquiry and investigation.
