Since it is a new virus and there is still no treatment for it during the early months of the pandemic, experts are encouraging people to reinforce their immune system by eating nutritious foodsIn response to this, many homemakers have devised a COVID shopping list to get the essentials and, of course, the freshest and the most nutritious food they see in the grocery store.

The immune system is the first line of defense our body can offer when a foreign matter tries to enter our body. Because of this, we need to help and strengthen it so that it can defend you in the worst-case scenario. To help you pick food, here are the foods that should not be present in your COVID shopping list.

In actuality, you must avoid soda because it adds to your love handles and weight. And you might want to exclude them from this pandemic, because according to Eat This Not That, this beverage troubles your immune system. In an interview with Piedmont Healthcare, Samer Blackmon, MD, shares that drinking soda should not be excessive because a study has proven them to compromise the immune response allowing infections to quickly occur in your body. 

Ice Cream

Ice Cream might be one of your favorite desserts during a hot summer. But this pandemic, you might want to cross out your grocery list. According to India's Times, this sweet treat is rich in full-fat cream and milk, possessing high levels of saturated fats. They add that this also has added sugar that can heighten or increase inflammation and surge up your blood sugar in a blink of an eye. 

Processed and Refined oils

WTop shares that consuming refined vegetable oils are highly processed, which can trigger the development of inflammation and imbalances in bacterial communities, which can affect your immune system in the long run. It adds that these oils include canola, corn, soy, cottonseed, and sunflower oils. 

Red Meat

Eat This Not That shares Lisa Richards' words, a nutritionist, saying that this food primarily affects the immune system negatively when the meat itself is grain-fed and not grass-fed, which is certainly high on immune-supporting nutrients such as Vitamin E and has less saturated fats. 

Potato Chips

Potato chips are the best option when you are having a movie night or even as an afternoon snack, but excessive consumption of this food is not good for your body. Times of India shares that this snack is packed with salt and fats that can weaken the immune system when you consume it regularly. In the long run, you might have high blood pressure higher levels of cholesterol.
