Our beloved macaron cookies at Lidl are being purged from US shelves! What could have triggered this?

The FDA had to go and rain on our macaron parade. German grocery chain Lidl has been forced to pull their "Deluxe Party Edition" macaron boxes from shelves in 9 US states due to a bevy of unlisted allergens.

Macaron Allergy Alert

These unassuming macaron assortments were pulled at Lidl because they may contain wheat, soy, eggs, milk, almonds, pistachios, or coconut. The problem seems to have arisen from some non-English ingredient labeling issues, so if you are prone to food allergies, you might want to hold off on scarfing down on these possibly nut or dairy-infested biscuits.

So Far So Good

While no one has suffered allergy symptoms from these macarons yet, the FDA isn't taking any chances. They have issued a grim warning about the potential for "life-threatening allergic reactions" from the unlisted ingredients.

If you have food allergies, you know this isn't a laughing matter. You don't carry an Epi-pen because it's a fun accessory. We recommend you always err on the side of prudence. If you have food sensitivities and you can't read the label, don't buy the product. Simple. Eat well and stay safe, folks.
