Sam Simon, Cancer Patient and Simpsons Co Creator, on Cancer and Living Beyond the Doctor's Estimated Days

Sam Simon cancer: Colon cancer has not gotten the better of Simpson's co creator Sam Simon. He continues to live through the disease the best way he knows how, through daily charity and humor.

Sam Simon was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer two years ago. According to the Simpsons co creator, the doctors told him he had only three to six months to live.

"They showed me my scans and said, these are the scans of a dead man," Simon said in an interview with NBC's Maria Shriver. "I said, 'Is it curable?' And the doctor goes, 'We don't use that word.' "The doctor spared no words for Sam Simon. Cancer was eating away at his remaining days on earth.

Though the news was heart breaking, two years on, Sam is still alive and he says he's never felt better. According to the 59 year old, his age and happiness comes from being surrounded by people who care for him and are willing to do all they can to make him happy. That he calls happiness.

With the remaining days of his life, Simon plans to dedicate them to philanthropy. Though he has never declared how much he got from the 'Simpsons' and such movie hits as 'Taxi' and 'Cheers,' Sam will be spending his multi-million dollar fortune on charity causes for animals and feeding the hungry.

The Sam Simon cancer has not dampened the spirit of the 59 year old. Through an organization known as PETA, Sam has been able to donate towards the liberation of animals, to fight against animal cruelty and to feed hungry families in Los Angeles.

His passion to serve comes from a huge sense of responsibility that he feels he bears to speak on behalf of the voiceless.

Asked how coping with the disease was for Sam Simon, "Cancer is a horrible disease, (and) I am struggling with it. It has been a fight; it's been an adventure; it's been an education, it's been the most amazing experience of my life."
