The beautiful star of "Maleficent" went through an emotional rollercoaster last Monday at the premiere of her new movie: Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" book made the actress emotional, as did the real-life story it was based on.

At the premiere of the second feature film she's ever directed, Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" book made news, after she was visibly choked up when a reporter quoted Louis Zamperini, the man on whom her new film is based on, according to The Daily Mail.

While it is known that the actress and mother of six isn't really one to get very emotional during interviews, it's also true that this became a very personal project for her, opening doors in a new career path and giving her an insight into everything behind Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" book.

Angelina's new film, "Unbroken," tells the story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympic runner in the 1936 Berlin Olympics hosted by the Adolf Hitler government. He later enlisted, served during World War II and was ultimately captured and sent to several Japanese prison camps, where he was brutally tortured - and that's the story told in Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" book adaptation.

The original non-fiction work was written by Laura Hillenbrand, the woman behind other works such as the original book "Seabiscuit" is based on. The original Angelina Jolie "Unbroken" book's full name is "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption" and was first published in 2010.

Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken" book adaptation was written by the Coen brothers, but according to the Oscar-winning actress, she had a hard time convincing the studio to let her work as a director for the piece, as she doesn't have as much experience behind the camera as she does in front of it - she told Australian Lifestyle that she had to fight hard to get this job.

At the world premiere event in Sydney - the entire film was shot in Australia -, Jolie was confronted by an Australian Channel Nine reporter with a quote from WWII survivor Louis Zamperini, who died recently and with whom she'd formed a close relationship while she was working on the project. The actress was visibly choked up, as can be seen in the video below.

The premiere of the new Angelina Jolie "Unbroken" book adaptation saw the actress and longtime partner Brad Pitt make their first public appearance after they became husband and wife over the summer.
