Georgia Woman Accidentally Tips $7,000 for Subway Sandwich

Many people are gracious tippers, but what happens when you accidentally tip too much? For this Georgian woman, a supposedly routine Subway order turned into a stressful incident after a tipping incident. Vera Conner acidentally left a staggering $7,000 tip on a Subway sandwich.

On Monday, Oct. 23, Vera Conner went to a Subway restaurant in College Park, Georgia, like she does every week, to place her usual order: a #4 Supreme Meats from the Subway Series menu. The woman had anticipated that her Footlong would only be $7.54, so she was surprised when she discovered she had been charged $7,112.98.

As part of the customer loyalty program offered by the Subway company, Connor believes that she must have made an error while entering her phone number into the card machine at the Subway restaurant. Her theory is that the machine must have switched to the tip screen at some point in time, which is what caused the error to occur.

Moreover, to resolve the issue, Conner mentioned that she made phone calls to both the Subway location and her bank, and she even went to the Subway location in person to receive assistance. However, the Subway manager told her that her bank would be the one responsible for handling it.

Bank America Denied a Refund

The charge was not brought to Conner's attention until Friday, Oct. 27, when she reviewed her receipts. After that, she began a procedure that would last for a month, during which she attempted to have the significant charge removed from her Bank of America credit card.

As mentioned, Conner initially believed the resolution would be simple; nevertheless, upon receiving the rejection notification from the bank, she started developing concerns. Bank of America later explained that the reimbursement was not granted since Conner was still required to pay $7.54 for the sandwich. As a result, the complaint had to be submitted again, with the tip being the only aspect that was questioned.

Finally, on Monday, Nov. 20, Conner was given temporary credit for the charge that had been made. However, she is now having second thoughts about using her card. Connor observed that people are constantly reminded to use their credit cards rather than debit cards to safeguard themselves from any hassle, yet this incident still happened to her. "I'm even getting mad at the bank because I'm like, 'How did they not think $7,000 was suspicious at Subway?'" she asserted.

On the other hand, Connor noted that she is happy that the problem has been resolved; nonetheless, she has decided to stop using reward apps. The trouble is reportedly not worth it for them.

Loyalty Cards Benefits on Company's Sales

The accumulation of reward points is a form of incentive that can be obtained by purchasing in particular categories. It is possible to earn points by participating in bonus programs or by making expenditures in specific categories, such as dining out, traveling, gas, and other similar areas. By providing incentives for customer loyalty and enhancing engagement with the brand, rewards apps have the potential to directly impact a company's sales, which also contribute to the retention and acquisition of customers, which, over time, results in a gain.

Furthermore, developing an application for a loyalty program can assist businesses in gaining access to a variety of customized incentive tactics. These techniques encourage particular types of interaction, enhancing customer connections and promoting brands. In addition, loyalty apps can enable businesses to distinguish themselves from rivals; therefore, organizations that wish to prosper in the current digital environment should prioritize the development of loyalty or rewards apps.
