Charlize Theron Sean Penn: ‘Dark Places’ For Madonna’s Ex, Dumped Through Text ‘Charlize Wasn’t Responding,’ Source Claims

Altogether halting replies to your partner might just be the most horrible way to break up with someone, and new reports say that it's exactly how Charlize Theron and Sean Penn's relationship ended, as the "Mad Max" star just ignored his phone calls and texts until he stopped trying.

It's unclear what exactly happened between Charlize Theron and Sean Penn that prompted this kind of behavior from the "Mad Max: Fury Road" actress, but it has come out that the South African Oscar winner was the person responsible for the relationship to end, after a year-long whirlwind romance.

According to Hollywood Life, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn ended things weeks back, but it wasn't as adult a break-up as would be thought from the couple's history but rather an abrupt affair after the 39 year-old actress started ignoring the two-time Oscar winner whenever he attempted to reach her.

"Charlize wasn't responding to his calls and texts," said a source close to Madonna's and Robin Wright's ex husband. "She just cut it off."

Us Weekly had previously reported that Charlize Theron and Sean Penn had broken up in the south of France during the Cannes Film Festival last month, after they had appeared happy throughout during the premiere of her latest film, where she co-starred with Tom Hardy and Nicholas Hoult.

After having been close friends for over a decade, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn started a romantic relationship last year that quickly turned into an engagement, and the actor had reportedly even filed to adopt the actress' son at some point, as they were seriously heading down the aisle.

As Perez Hilton reports, while they might not be talking to each other right now, things are bound to get awkward in a while, as Penn recently directed his former flame in "The Last Face," a film set for a late 2015 release - so Charlize Theron and Sean Penn will have to see each other during the press tours.
