Fish Poisoning Is Apparently More Common Than You Think

A new study shows that toxins causing food poison from fishes like the barracuda and other known sport fish are common and it's just being neglected.

The New York Times has covered the news about this issue and they said that the problem is occurring in other common fishing facilities globally. The study about the said matter was brought up just recently to make others aware of this not so rare case of fish poisoning. Florida is among the states that get a lot of poisoning cases coming from the fish ciguatera and it is more common in Hispanic families.

Yahoo also reported this same issue on fish poisoning that they even have a true to life story related to it that just happened on December of last year to a woman named Tracy Calvert.

It happened when she was at the Bahamas for her vacation when she tried to ate a fish that she thought was good. She finished the whole finish feeling satisfied when after an hour, she felt her stomach starting to hurt. She tried to lie down but woke up in the middle of the night feeling horrible. She found her lips swelling and had to battle with diarrhea. It turns out that she just experienced a fish poisoning called the ciguatera.

A research was published by the American Journal of American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene stating that Calvert's case is actually pretty common, only not a lot of people notice and pay attention to it.

Live Science also confirmed this fish poison disease called ciguatera and they stated that it's more common to occur to those people living in Florida. According to statistics, there are about 56 locals in that state who get sick from the said cause. If you live in that state, more reasons for you to be extra careful.
