Colonel Sanders Actor: Darrell Hammond Steps Down As KFC Mascot, Fellow ‘SNL’ Legend Norm MacDonald Playing Fried Chicken Personality [VIDEOS]

As fast food chains all over the world, particularly giant McDonald's, suffer the poorest sales they've had in decades, the biggest fried chicken chain in the world (although not currently the biggest in the United States) has been going through a major rebranding to get customers back inside, even hiring a new Colonel Sanders actor a few months back to portray the iconic fried chicken maker.

The first Colonel Sanders actor this year was Darrell Hammond, a "Saturday Night Live" alum most famous for his impression of former President Bill Clinton - however, only a few months after taking the role last May, he has been replaced by a fellow "SNL" alum, Norm MacDonald.

According to Eater, the new Colonel Sanders actor was announced this Monday morning as MacDonald, after Hammond had only played the iconic KFC founder for a few months in television spots, in a campaign revolving entirely around the man behind the Secret Recipe.

"Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different, and his inability to cook the world's best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel. I think the fans will agree," said KFC chief marketing officer Kevin Hochman about the new Colonel Sanders actor, Business Insider reports.

While the fried chicken chain gave no reason for replacing the Colonel Sanders actor, Ad Week describes Hammond's performance in the role as "memorably off-kilter," having very little to do as the chain's founder turned mascot; however, now things have gotten much more meta, as they're not only introducing a new actor but MacDonald's Colonel even goes so far as to claim Hammond was an "imposter."

The new revival of Colonel Sanders as a character after years of absence in KFC ads comes as the chain tries to take up the title of the biggest fast food chain seller in the U.S., a title Chick-Fil-A took a while back.

In any case, watch the new Colonel Sanders actor in action in the ads below!
