Pillsbury Bake-Off Allows Aspiring Bakers to Win $1 Million

The Pillsbury Bake-Off allows aspiring bakers to compete for a grand prize of $1 million. This year the categories consist of Amazing Doable Dinners, Simple Sweets and Starters along with Quick Rise and Shine Breakfast.

What makes a million dollar recipe? According to the contest website, there are 7 components bakers must keep in mind. They have to use 7 ingredients or less, take 30 minutes or less to prepare, use at least 2 different eligible ingredients and wow with its taste, appearance, creativity and consumer appeal.

One hundred of the finalists will receive round trips to Las Vegas, for November 10-12, 2013. They will compete for cash and merchandize which totals to over $1 million. Here is how the contest is structure: the Grand Prize Winner will obtain $1 million along with $1 million worth of kitchen supplies. The Second Prize Winner wins $10,000 and $3,000 worth of kitchen supplies. The Third Prize Winner will earn $5,000 and $2,000 worth of kitchen supplies.

Those that are professional trained chefs or made a career as a food writer, culinary specialist or educator are not eligible. One cannot enter if they are an employee of General Mills, General Electric Company, The J.M. Smucker Company, or Don Jagoda Associates Inc.

The submissions for Amazing Doable Dinners ended on February 7th however people can still enter for the Simple Sweets and Starters category or the Quick Rise and Shine Breakfast one. The deadline for the Simple Sweets category is May 9th and the Quick Rise one is August 8th.

Last year, Christina Verrelli won the grand prize of $1 million; she stated, "The bake itself is such a wonderful experience, never ever did I think I would be the grand prize winner". She won for her pumpkin ravioli with salt and pepper. In the behind the scenes confessions video, the finalists expressed how they were anxious, excited and overjoyed. Some even boasted about how wonderful their recipes were.

Bakers that are interested in participating should enter quickly as time is starting to run out for the second category of the contest. Pillsbury is sponsoring the contest along with Smuckers, Jif, Crisco, Eagle Brand, Green Giant and GE Appliances and Lighting.
