2015 American Music Awards: Taylor Swift Wins Big

At this year's American Music Awards, Taylor Swift took the lead with six nominations. 

The "Bad Blood" hit-maker closely competed with other artists including Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Meghan Trainor, Sam Smith and The Weeknd. 

Under the nominations for categories "Artist of the Year", "Song of the Year", "Favorite Female Artist-Rock/ Pop", "Favorite Album-Rock/ Pop", "Adult Contemporary Artist" and "Collaboration of the Year",  Taylor Swift won the "Song of the Year" for her hit single Bad Blood, the "Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist" and "Favorite Album - Pop/ Rock" for her record-breaking album 1989.

Reports say that summing up Swift's consecutive 16 career wins, including her latest achievements on the row, she could surpass the records of the late singer Whitney Houston.

The Weeknd and Ed Sheeran were listed under five nominations and among their five nominations, Sheeran won the "Favorite Male Artist" for Pop/ Rock and The Weeknd won the "Favorite Male Artist" for Soul/ R&B.

Other winners include One Direction, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, 5 Seconds of Summer, Calvin Harris, Sam Hunt and Justin Bieber.

The star-studded event, recognized as the world's biggest fan-voted awards event was hosted by the singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, which was held at the Microsoft Theater situated in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, November 22.

The event was joined with musical performances from big-named artists including Nick Jonas, Selena Gomez, One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, Coldplay, Demi Lovato, Macklemore, Carrie Underwood and Gwen Stefani.

While highlighting the event's long-listed names of nominees and winners, the show had also paid tribute to the recent Paris attacks which took place two weeks ago and pop star Celine Dion performed Edith Piaf's "Hymne a L'Amour" in French language.

Other performers at the 2015 American Music Awards were Jeremy Renner, Taylor Lautner, Terry Crews, Wilmer Valderama, Julienne Hough, Wiz Khalifa, Kylie Jenner, Donnie Wahlberg and Hailee Steinfeld.
