Pennsylvania Rye Chosen Best Craft Whiskey by 'Whisky Advocate

Rye whiskey, whether you love it or don't, is the king of spirits right now. Millennials love them and so do their grandparents. Whiskey sales, especially the craft ones, are posting double digit growth already. So, amidst all the hype with all these whiskies, one has been crowned the best by Whisky Advocate.

For the good people at Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey by Mountain Laurel Spirits, the accolade for Craft Whisky of the Year is solid thumbs up for the efforts of their distillery. The distillery operates in Bristol outside Philadelphia, Penn Live reported.

Whisky Advocate is a magazine dedicated to everything whisky (or whiskey, depending on what spirit and from where you are talking about). Its editors noted that Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey has a distinctive taste.

They added, "The nose is clean and complex: crushed grain, grasses, sweet spice, and the bitter herbal note of rye. It's all there on the tongue with a light barrel character, moving to a neatly integrated finish."

Mountain Laurel is just one of many craft distilleries that have ballooned in the area of Pennsylvania. The region starting its whiskey boom nearly two decades ago in the same fashion craft beer is exploding right now.

As for Dad's Hat, it was first released in 2012 and is named after fedora hats that co-founder Herman Mihalich's father would buy in Philadelphia. It is also worth noting that Dad's Hat has already received attention for its excellent product in the past.

Earlier this month, Wine Enthusiast magazine listed Dad's Hat Pennyslvania Rye Whiskey finished in Vermouth barrels in its "Top 100 Spirits of 2015." It does not end there. Dad's Hat has also won multiple awards including a silver medal at the 2015 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

The annual awards of Whisky Advocate covers many categories like Japanese Whisky of the Year, Irish Whiskey of the Year, and Malt Scotch Whisky of the Year.
