Shocking Tiktok Video Rinsing Ground Beef Causes Internet Chaos

A TikToker has decided to rinse cooked ground beef to make it leaner, but it seems that not all the audience were happy about it.

Everybody knows that if you browse TikTok, you will find various food hacks by wannabe chefs. Some of them seemed logical, but you will come across some ludicrous videos that will shock you once in a while.

According to Today.com, many users were left confused and even offended by the food hack that Emily Harper uploaded in TikTok.

Delish reported that Harper's video starts by promising to teach the audience a healthy cooking hack she learned in her nutrition class.

Then she was seen cooking the ground beef and preparing to drain the excess grease. This was when the audience started making a fuss as she was seen pouring the cooked ground beef into a strainer.

She placed the strainer over the sink and runs water over the ground beef. Her caption exclaimed that all that grease is disgusting and should go down the drain.

The video garnered tons of views as well as many backlashes. Harper has since turned off the post's commenting option, but it did not stop people from giving their feedback.

The video has been duetted multiple times by various TikTokers, including the famous Uncle Roger, who is known to give harsh feedback on food hacks and instructional cooking videos.

He was heard calling out Harper for draining the grease and for rinsing the cooked ground beef. He also exclaimed that Harper is killing the meat and killing the house in the process.

Draining and Rinsing Ground Beef

According to Registered Dietitian Nutritionists Kristin Koskinen, when you rinse ground beef, you're losing many essential nutrients. She added that this process is not something and has been around for many years.

Rinsing ground meat is used as a hack to make it leaner and reduce calories. She also mentioned that the process could get rid of extra fat to decrease the amount of calories per serving, but it may also take away the essential nutrients. That is why she does not recommend it.

Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin K2 are just some of the vital nutrients rinsed away with fat if this process is taken.

Omega-3 fatty acids are vital for brain health and contain anti-inflammatory benefits, while Vitamin K2 plays a critical role in heart-health and keeping the bones healthy.

Koskinen said that instead of rinsing meat, there are other ways to make sure you eat less fat. You can consider buying a good-quality hamburger and savoring moderate amounts.

Three ounces of ground beef, which is about your palm's size, is a good start for most people. The portion size will vary from one person to another since bigger people require bigger portions.

This was also echoed by another Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, Bonnie Taub-Dix, by stating that people can buy a leaner grade of meat or buy ground poultry if they want to avoid excess fat calories.
