The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of butternut squash and chocolate milk items due to possible contaminants that can be harmful when consumed.
According to Investopedia, companies' product recalls are being done due to product safety and quality concerns that can harm the consumers.
Recalls are not new in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) data alone showed that 17 food products were recalled in 2020, and it is not possible that the same average can also occur for 2021.

Eat This Not That reports that trays of butternut squash produce sold at stores situated in 11 states have been issued for recall by the Pero Family Farms Food Co., which was announced by the FDA.
The federal agency's release notes that the company behind the product issues the recall voluntarily because it is potentially contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes. This organism can cause serious to fatal infections among young children and elders who have weakened immune systems.
Yahoo! Life shares that all the products included in the recall feature a blue Pero Family Farms label, and some of the products are even safe for microwave use. The products are distributed to retail store between January 2 and January 11, 2021, and is distributed in states such as Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Virginia, Texas, and Ohio.
Eat This Not That shares that the products' use-by date is January 13 to January 22. FDA describes the product to have to be in a flexible clear plastic container with labeling on the top and bottom right-hand corner of the tray package on the package.
Meanwhile, Delish reports that Hiland Dairy issues recall 240,000 half-pints of 1 percent low-fat chocolate milk cartons, potentially possessing food-grade sanitizers. FDA said the product was produced from the company's Norman, Oklahoma facility alone.
The Thrillist shares that the chocolate milk drink was distributed in Oklahoma City, Western Oklahoma, Dallas, San Antoni, and Tyler, Texas. Yahoo! Finance says the products issued for recalls had labeled with a UPC code 72060-00156-3, a sell-by date of January 27, 2021, and a plant code of 4025.
FDA shares that Hiland Dairy initially learned the potential issue and confirmed the contamination after internal quality-control at the Norman, Oklahoma Facility, then contacting the federal agency to initiate the product recall.
The consumers are encouraged to check their stocks or fridge for the butternut squash and milk chocolate with the given details, and if you happen to see them toss them in the bin to ensure your family's safety. The butternut squash and milk chocolate recall announced by the FDA should be taken seriously, as these products possess possible dangers when consumed.
