‘Orange Is The New Black’ Cookbook: Care To Eat Prison Food?

In an odd move for a prison show, an "Orange is the New Black" cookbook is the latest antic the show has released, and the publishing company is sure that given the fact that a lot of the drama of the show takes place in the kitchen, the book will be a huge success.

The "Orange is the New Black" cookbook will feature some of the show's most famous recipes, probably made by the two characters who have been chefs of the Litchfield women's prison: Red and Gloria.

As a matter of fact, the "Orange is the New Black" cookbook features plates from all of the main characters, adding an introduction in the voice of each one of them.

According to Media Bistro, the "Orange is the New Black" cookbook will have recipes like "Prison Punch" and "Red's Chicken Kiev," taking the spirit of each of the characters they take their name after.

The process of creating the "Orange is the New Black" cookbook was that Samantha Weiner (who is the editor of Abrams Books, the publishing house that's putting out this new book) started looking for every possible cooking item in the show's second season, and asked the writers of the Netflix series to send her a list of the plates served in the first season as well.

The writers then took it to heart to create a list of plates' names that best represented the mood and personalities of the different characters of the show. Then, it was the job of recipe developer Leda Scheintaub to create recipes that were both authentic and tasted good.

"So much of the drama of the show happens in the kitchen and that's why we thought it was such a great entry point to get more for the fans," Samantha Weiner told ABC News. "For people who love the show, it's just so much inside the world of these characters inside the prison and inside things you've seen and haven't seen."
