Burger King Satisfries No More, Say Goodbye to Low-Calorie, Low-Fat Fries in America

Burger King Satisfries- The low-calorie, low-fat, crinkle Satisfries from Burger King will soon be removed from the menus. In North America where it was initially launched in Sept. 2013, about two-thirds of its outlets have taken the fries out of their menu.

In a statement, Burger King told that 100 million guests have ordered Satisfries, but the figure is not convincing enough to continue the product. When it was launched last year, the low-fat fries were marketed healthier fries with its 30 percent less fat and 20 percent less calories than Burger King classic fries. It is also considered healthier than Mc Donald's fries posing its 30 percent fewer calories and 40 percent lesser fat.

However, the sales results were not persuasive for the company to continue serving the product. In a report, only about 2,500 out of 7, 371 restaurants in North America will continue serving the fries.  This time, the second largest fast food chain in the world changed its strategy by incorporating healthier foods in their menus including vegetables, salads, fruits and other options to the usual fried products.

Burger King Satisfries didn't make it in North America but in April, it will be launched in European markets, including U.K., Germany and Spain according to Burger King Chief executive Daniel Schwartz. Burger King came out with lower-calorie, fewer-fats French fries last year in a move to offer healthier option to consumers and to boost its image.

Burger King Satisfries small pack of crinkle fries contains 270 calories, 300 milligrams of Sodium and 11 grams of Fat. It is lower in fat and calories to its classic fries which gives 340 calories, 480 milligrams of Sodium and 15 grams Fat. The fall of Satisfries means that it is really hard to sell healthier options in the fast food world.

"French fries are an indulgence, just like ice cream," Bob Goldin, Executive Vice President at Technomic Inc. said in an interview. "You don't eat them if you're worried about your diet."
