Sawyer Fredericks Crowned As 'The Voice' Season 8 Winner

Sawyer Fredericks, the 16-year old blonde crooner, was announced the winner of the 8th season of NBC's popular singing competition, 'The Voice'.

He bested out three competitors who belonged to Adam Levine and Blake Shelton's teams. Fredericks belonged to Pharell William's group up until the finale. He was already among the crowd favorites because of his mature sound and unique way of belting out songs.

The young singer was crowned the champion after he sang 'Old Man' by Neil Young during the two-hour season finale Tuesday night.

The star-studded show featured acts from today's biggest artists, including Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5 and Luke Bryan, who performed the opening number. Emotions were also running high as the final four contenders began singing their final pieces.

Team Adam's Joshua Davis, Team Blake's Meghan Lindsay and Team Pharell's Koryn Hawthorne were the other finalists vying for the title.

As soon as he was announced the winner, he seemed to be holding tears back while showing the crowd a big smile. He ended the show by singing his original song 'Please', while his parents and his coach, Williiams joining him on stage.

According to People Magazine, Fredericks feels amazing to have America embrace and support him and his music. "I almost don't know what to say. I can say 'thank you' but it's just enough," he said.

On its offcial Twitter account, NBC praised the new winner with the hashtag #SawyerIsTheVoice. The overflowing support and countless congratulations for Fredericks also flooded the social media platform after the tweet was posted.

Besides singing, Fredericks also helps out in his family's farm in Fultonville, New York.

After winning, he told reporters from US Magazine that he's excited to go back home to the farm for a little break from the limelight.

The 9th season of The Voice will premiere with a whole new roster of talent in September.
