Fans Take to Twitter on Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez WBC Title Match

It was Saturday night that the two top middleweights met in the ring to decide who of the two deserves the WBC champion title this year.

In the end, Martinez dominated the match in front of 19,186 at a sold out Thomas & Mack Center. For 11 and a half rounds he didn't give Chavez Jr. a chance.

By the last round however, seemingly out of nowhere, Chavez Jr. returned with determination to beat Martinez to a pulp. In the end, Martinez persevered and went on to claim the title he had been craving for a long time.

On Twitter, fans of the two boxers have not kept idle, but have been busy trying to understand what exactly happened in the match, and predicting what the future might hold for both the reigning champion as well as the now former champion.

The match had spectators nailed to their seats and on edge throughout the night. Here are a few select tweets from some of the more dedicated boxing fans:

@EllenbergerMMA - The last round of Chavez Jr & Martinez was intense. Chavez had Martinez in a lot of trouble. #ChavezMartinez

@KevinI - The atmosphere at Chavez-Martinez was among the best for any fight I've been at. Heard it was great at Canelo-Lopez too. Yep, dying sport

@mrdavidhaye I had flash backs in Martinez v Chavez Jr 12th round of Chavez Sr v Meldrick Taylor controversy! Most exciting single round in a long time!

@stevemaxboxing - Cant lie, I'm still a bit breathless. Even press row was on their feet in the last round. Yeah, it happens.... #boxing #chavezmartinez

Lastly, a guy who possibly unknowingly foresaw the furor Chavez would unleash in the last rounds:

@sportsguy33 - Since Martinez dominated this fight and won all 10 rounds so far, I fully expect Chavez to be the new champ in 15 mins.
