Apple just added a new featured section to the App store to commemorate the civil rights of the lesbian/ gay/ bisexual/ transgender (LGBT) community. Apple sets aside a featured spot to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots.
The latest section features an assortment of TV shows, books, movies, music, and podcast that highlights the LGBT community. They included selections that have a notable impact in the multifaceted community, such as 'Milk,' a 2008 drama based on the story of the 1970s push on gay liberation, 'Normal Heart' and a rodeo cowboy story 'Brokeback Mountain.'
They also included in the feature health and fitness app, magazines, music from famous music artist such as Sam Smith, Neon Tress, Adam Lambert and many more representations of the LGBT pride.
Apple wrote, "Every June, we commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots-a history-making moment in which gay men and women fought back after decades of relentless discrimination. It heralded the beginning of the modern gay rights movement, launching the struggle for public visibility, cultural acceptance, and legal equality that the LGBT community has continued battling for ever since. To celebrate these efforts, we've gathered a selection of movies, music, TV shows, apps, and more-all reflecting the broad and diverse spectrum of LGBT pride."
Pride Day is every June 28, commemorating the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York's Greenwich Village, where the LGBT community formed a movement and fought for their rights.
With Pride 2015 just around the corner, it was recently reported that President Obama was interrupted by a transgender heckler during his LGBT speech at the White House. The heckler is a member of the GetEqual LGBT. Reportedly, the transgender wanted to draw the attention of the President, calling for the urgent release of the transgender women who are being held in detention centers.
