Some are speculating that Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea may not be on the best terms despite their recent collaboration on the single "Pretty Girls." It's the song that seems to have started the trouble. In response to a fan who said the single "flopped a little bit," Azalea tweeted, "its difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and tv performances etc. unfortunately im just featured..."
The Iggy Azalea and Britney Spears tune attempted to follow the "Fancy" playbook to a T, complete with an identical beat, even bigger pop star to sing the hook, and vintage sartorial stylings, swapping the Clueless parody with '80s duds. But the radio-ready tune, released May 4, has bombed in the U.S., peaking at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, dropping out of the Top 40 after three weeks, and collecting just 96,000 in total sales to date (digital and streaming).
Azalea, as is her wont, deflected the blame and placed it on Spears. After replying tweet by a fan, the internet media still does not believe Azalea's attemtps to clear the air between her and Britney Spears. Azalea then tweeted several tweets about the media and said, "I am honestly not surprised but still really saddened that the media is trying to create a "beef" between @britneyspears and myself."
She then followed up with a tweet saying, "i feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other." "As a woman i take great offense." Azalea then directed another tweet towards women in the media, "Women in the media should be able to have a grown up and subjective opinion without it being anything more than that. its disappointing." Her final tweet regarding the media was very outspoken about the media's point of view towards women, "i feel like the press just wants to see girls be overtly sexual to one another, and have no real opinion other than "i love it! ^.^"
When Spears's fans took issue with the shade-Spears did little to promote the track, though that's been her modus operandi for the last decade-plus-Azalea doubled down, writing to a critical fan, "my comment is factual, it applies to any song. I dont have to suck the womans as*h*** 24/7 to be her friend, do i? bye girls."
The coup de grace came when, this month, Azalea was forced to cancel her appearance at a Pittsburgh Pride event after several LGBT organizations pulled out of the parade in protest over her history of tweeting about "homos" and "dyke bitches." "I am a firm believer in equality,"
