Prison Worker Joyce Mitchell's Relationships With Escaped Prisoners, A Fantasy of a New Life

Joyce Mitchell, who is a prison worker admitted her relationship with a convicted murderer. During the investigation, she detailed how the relationship began that eventually lead to the escaped of the two convicted criminals from the New York prison.

A supposed to be "running off into the sunset" with the man she loved, Mitchell dreams turned into a drastic reality as she pleaded guilty on Tuesday, ABC reports.

In a statement obtained by ABC, Mitchell explained the relationship following the escape of the convicted murderers.

She admits that she had sexual contact with one of the escaped prisoners, Richard Matt that went on to sending him nude photos to share with his inmate, David Sweat.

"I enjoyed the attention, the feeling both of them gave me, and the thought of a different life," she said.

Mitchell, who is married said in her statement, Matt made her "feel special," then began doing him favors. Including bringing various items which he couldn't get by himself with the help of Correction Officer Gene Palmer.

"I originally brought in two blades, by bending them in half and putting them in some hamburger, which I then put in the freezer," she told investigators, according to the statements."

"I brought the frozen hamburger into work and put it in the freezer where I work. Inmate Matt stated he would have Correctional Officer Palmer pick up the hamburger and bring it back to his cell."

"The second time Inmate Matt asked me for hacksaw blades, he also asked for two chisels and a punch," she reportedly placed the blades in the hamburger, then she left it in the freezer after she froze the meat. After a few days the hamburger with the blade was gone.

June 5, the night of the escape, Mitchell admitted that she agreed to help the two prisoners escape and would run away with them but when it was time to run she panicked and decided to stay.

Both prisoners escaped from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.

After weeks of chasing, authorities caught the two men, Sweat was shot and captured while Matt was killed after being shot.

As for Mitchell, she pleaded guilty to first-degree promoting prison contraband and fourth-degree criminal facilitation, she will be facing 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.
