Wolfgang Puck Tries to Order In-N-Out Burger with Dijon Mustard and Wine, Fails

A celebrity chef walks into an In-N-Out and orders a burger with Dijon mustard and a side of wine. It sounds like the start of a bad joke, but culinary icon Wolfgang Puck did just that. Except instead of walking in, he tried and failed this order in the drive-through.

Puck says that he was on his way from Palm Springs to La Quinta for the grand opening of his friend's restaurant. They pass by one of the ubiquitous In-N-Out signs, and his wife gets a craving for fresh burgers and fries. She was apparently not worried about ruining her appetite.

After an argument, Puck turns around and drives 20 miles to get to the burger chain. Improbably, the Austrian chef took the drive-through and proceeded to drop an order for burger with Dijon mustard, complete with wine. Imagine the looks on the In-N-Out staff's faces when Wolfgang Puck pulled up with an unhappy face.

"Why not, it's supposed to be a nice place," Puck told Crain's Detroit Business.

Suffice it to say, Puck is not as big a fan as mega-chef Thomas Keller, who is known to love In-N-Out's burger. Keller, who owns the renowned French Laundry and Per Se, orders the plain burger and does not venture into the off-the-menu "styles" that the chain is famous for.

Perhaps In-N-Out will revamp it's menu in case another celebrity chef with high tastes comes rolling through the drive-through. They can order a burger "Wolfgang Puck style" - cooked with Dijon mustard, and a side of wine.
