Documentary Inspires Food Bloggers to Unite Against Hunger On April 8 (VIDEO)

Participant Media recently released their eye-opening documentary "A Place At The Table". The film highlights the current food problems facing Americans.

Due to poverty, low-rate food stamps and a lack-luster economy, many children and families are going hungry on a daily basis.

"One in four U.S. kids don't know where their next meal will come from," according to GivingTable.com.

In response to the dire situation, GivingTable.org has come together to start "Food Bloggers Against Hunger."

The idea of the movement and charity event is to unite food bloggers together on April 8 to take actions towards improving food assistance for families in need.

"On April 8th, 2013, food bloggers will donate their posts to raise awareness about the film, issues of hunger, and, in partnership with Share Our Strength, ask their readers to send letters to Congress to protect SNAP funding and make anti-hunger legislation a priority," GivingTable reads.

The documentary, "A Place At The Table", which inspired the event, follows three struggling families in the United States and attempts to peel back our eyelids to the ongoing problem of hunger in our country.

There are a host of problems that have led to a deficit of food for hungry families.

"We subsidize the wrong products," GivingTable said. "The foods we should be eating- fruits and vegetables - are more expensive than the chips, sodas and processed foods that are available. We currently spend a mere $1 per week per child in school meal programs. Food stamp participants are only allocated $4 a day to survive."

In order to help, GivingTable lists a few possible ways to get involved.
