Matt Lauer Intern: "Today" Host Apologizes to Former Intern Who Called Him “Not So Nice”

Mark Zinni, a former intern for Matt Lauer in 1997, recently Tweeted "I was an intern there in '97, his first year on the job...how do I say this...? He was... not nice."

Once the NBC "Today Show" host got word of the tweet, he took to Twitter on Tuesday to clear up the situation, reports Yahoo.

"Huh? Always tried to be nice Mark. Sorry you didn't think so. Hope you're doing well. Matt."

Zinni, who is currently a Cleveland-based TV anchor, recanted a few of his previous statements about Lauer on Thursday.

"If you know me, you probably know that I don't take myself too seriously," he said. "So, my answer was more of a joke about being young and naive during my time at Today, but I added that he wasn't nice to me."

Zinni also changed his negative position about his job over ten years ago.

"Had an amazing internship" at "The Today Show".

It's been a rough few weeks for Lauer, who's role in the abrupt firing of "Today Show" co-host Ann Curry last June, was highlighted in a recent article in New York Magazine

"Everybody at NBC, everybody at the 'Today' show, everybody understood that Ann was kicked out of her position because Matt didn't want her there," a NBC staffer told writer Joe Hagan. "That's why it was so personal between Ann and Matt."
