Neil Patrick Harris When It Comes to Parenting

New hit show and a hot career is in the bag of Neil Patrick Harris, but as a father of two he says that the greatest way to finish his day is to get an embrace from his 4½-year-old twins Gideon and Harper.

"There is nothing greater than arriving home before dinner and having them run down the stairs and jump into your arms," says Harris. "That takes away any upset or distraction you had throughout the day."

The father of twins has been preparing for months for the one-hour live variety show which had him zip-lining off a building with Reese Witherspoon and doing back flips on a po-go stick in the premiere. He already has two episodes into his brand new NBC television series Best Time Ever.

But even with a from time to time exhausting work pace, the 42-year-old finds a way to balance his career and family.

"We manage our time really well," says Harris. "Our kids are included in our world if we are traveling somewhere they come with us when they can. We don't stay apart too long and we are a very inclusive family."

While the actor and host says he's the "bad cop" when it comes to disciplining the kids and his parenting style is more of a "camp counselor", being a dad has also encouraged him to become a better listener.

"With kids you need to be able to answer their questions in earnest and you need to try and get from the way they are asking the question to what they might actually be wanting to know. The more communicative they have become, the sweeter it's been for me," Harris clarifies.

"I've said for more than a couple of years that I'm anxious for them to be a little more self sufficient so I can hang out with them."
