'Star Wars Episode VIII' Rumors: Gugu Mbatha-Raw Up Against Tatiana Maslany, Are There Two Female Leads? What Is Finn's Real Name?

With only a few months before the release on 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens,' speculations about the two new main characters in the film continue to appear from every direction.

It was recently reported that John Boyega, who plays Finn in 'The Force Awakens,' has been helping Lucasfilm screen a few actresses for the lead role in 'Episode VIII.' The shortlist of young women included 'Orphan Black' star Tatiana Maslany, Olivia Cooke from 'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl' and 'Jane The Virgin' actress Gina Rodriguez. However, there has been one name that has been omitted and it is a big one.

According to Latino-Review, 'Beyond the Lights' star Gugu Mbatha-Raw was also auditioned for the role, but was it for the same role as the other girls? The report also indicated that Lucasfilm could be looking for two major female leads for 'Episode VIII,' and there is a possibility that one of them could be a villain.

Could Gugu Mbatha-Raw win a role in 'Episode VIII?' The British actress is up against some stiff competition, especially in Tatiana Maslany who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe.

Whether Gugu Mbatha-Raw ends up being one of the good guys or a possible member of the First Order, there would be a connection between both female leads and Finn, who is a defected First Order Stormtrooper.

There are also rumors that Finn's name isn't actually his real name. According to Cinelinx, Finn may have forgotten his real name and has taken the first two letters of his First Order designation (FN-2187) to use as a name after his defection. The theory aligns with how Stormtroopers are addressed in The Clone Wars, where they are simply known by their designations and eventually adopt their own nicknames.

Find out the truth about Finn when 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' hits theaters on December 18.
