Ring Bearer Marries Flower Girl In The Same Church 17 Years Later

A North Carolina couple tied the knot on September 19 and found out they walked on the same aisle together as flower girl and ring bearer when they were 5 years old.

Adrian and Brooke Franklin were classmates since they were kids. Although Brooke admitted she had a crush on Adrian when they were in grade school, the romance didn't spark until they got a little older.

"I had a crush on him from the start," Brooke recalled. "He absolutely could not stand me. He said 'I got on his nerves.' I'd tried to play with him at school and at church and he just didn't want much to do with me at all."

"I was not a fan of Brooke back then," Adrian told Huffington Post. "I was a shy little boy and wanted to be in the background. But not Brooke. She was outgoing and seemed to always be determined to find a way to be next to me."

But Brooke and Adrian's playful friendship turned into a romantic relationship when they reached high school.

"We would draw with our finger on each other's backs and guess what the other person was writing," Adrian shared. "I wrote 'Will you be my girlfriend' and she guessed it, but didn't answer me. I said 'Well Brooke, are you going to say anything?' and she said 'Well you didn't write a question mark.'"

Years after, Adrian and Brooke said their "I do's" at South Gastonia Church of God in front of 300 guests. One of their parents' friends, the bride who got hitched in 2001, brought them a special present -- a photo of them when they were partnered as flower girl and ring bearer.

"We forgot that we were in the wedding together and she brought the photos to us," Brooke told ABC News. "She just thought that was the neatest thing. She was really excited."

The adorable photo was posted by Adrian's mother on Facebook and has gone viral.

"We are all in shock as to all the attention that this is getting," Adrian shared. "There was a picture that my mom posted on Facebook and we're glad that it's good news going out and not bad."

The memorabilia is now displayed in the couple's home along with their wedding portrait, which they hope they could show their children in the future.
